Speaking Up Workshop - How to use your lived experience to create change
Tuesday 11 February 2025
11:00 to 14:00
Sharing our lived experiences of barriers and challenges that we face is expertise and important in creating a fairer society.
Join our 'Speaking Up workshop' that will create a space to come together and build confidence around using our experiences to create change. We hope this workshop will help you to increase your choice and control as well as feel inspired to mobilise with other Merton CIL members and DDPOs in the disability justice movement.
At the workshop we will:
- Discuss what is Lived Experience actually means (neutral descriptor vs a political practice)
- Look at the systems and behaviours that create inequity and what our lived experience of oppression teaches us about how systems work.
- How can we use our lived experiences to challenge barriers and discriminatory systems - what does this look like in practice.
- Examples of people using their lived experience to create change
- At the end of the session you will receive a certificate
After this workshop, we will provide opportunities for members to apply what they have learned to support policy and campaigning work at Merton CIL.
Spaces at this workshop are limited so please RSVP by 7th February 2025.
We will be providing a lunch to the attendees.
Please let us know if you have any access or dietary requirements that you would like us to take into consideration.
