Press release: General Election Result
Merton CIL congratulates all the MPs who have been elected to Parliament in this election, and particularly our local MPs: Siobhain McDonagh was elected MP for the Mitcham and Morden constituency for Labour and Stephen Hammond, representing the Conservative Party, was elected MP for the Wimbledon constituency.
We also want to acknowledge everyone who took the time to cast their vote!
The future now looks somewhat uncertain on some of the key issues which impact on Deaf and Disabled people, including whether there will be further cuts to benefits, what will now happen with social care budgets, and lots of questions about Brexit. Importantly, if we are looking at a Conservative Government supported by the Democratic Unionist Party, what does that mean for Deaf and Disabled people, who are not mentioned in their manifesto at all?
It is important that Deaf and Disabled people are heard going forward, and we invite our constituency MPs, Siobhain McDonagh and Stephen Hammond, to meet with Merton CIL to discuss some of the issues which matter to Deaf and Disabled people locally.
